The Faculty of Political Theory has established and developed since the establishment of Hanoi University of Science and Technology in 1956. The Department of Politics was established and under the direct management of the Board of Directors because of the requirement to train a team of engineers and experts who are qualified, have strong political and ideological skills. It is responsible for teaching Philosophy of Marxism-Leninism and Revolutionary line to all students of Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
The Department of Politics was renamed to Marxist-Leninist Subject in 1960. The Marxist-Leninist Subject changed its name to the Marxist-Leninist Department in 1970 and finally changed its name to the The Faculty of Marxism-Leninism in 1988. The Faculty of Marxism-Leninism has 5 subjects, namely: Philosophy of Marxism-Leninism; Political Economics Marxism-Leninism; Scientific Socialism; History of Vietnam Communist Party; Ho Chi Minh Ideology.
The Faculty of Marxism-Leninism has been renamed to The Faculty of Political Theory since October 2008. At the same time, 05 previous subjects were merged into 03 subjects, namely: Basic Principles of Maxist-Leninism, Revolutionary line of the Vietnamese Communist Party and Ho Chi Minh Ideology.
To keep up with the general trend, the The Faculty of Political Theory aims to develop into a specialized faculty in the social sciences and humanities sector, which contributes to the glorious history of Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
